Props to KC!

by Hoke » Mon May 28, 2007 6:37 pm

Everytime I go there, I enjoy myself more.

Of course, every time I go there I stay on the Plaza, which is part of the fun. Great place. First time I went there, I wondered why people hadn't told me about it before, and how great the town was.

There's a great (relatively) new wine shop there too for geeks. Surprisingly broad and engaging selection. It's between the Plaza and the business/downtown section.

I'd still have to say the rep for Q is overstated, but then again I haven't been taken to LC's place, which I hear is the place to go. Had a quickie at one of the Gates' places---fast food Q. Decent sauce; had a suprising bite to it for wimpy midwest palates. Okay, but not great. (Remember that I come from the southeast, where Q is sliced or pulled pork, and lived several years in Texas, where you weren't allowed to say anything good about KC Q.)

Hoke, are you writing about Kansas City?

If so, which one?

Regards, a baffled OF Bob.

Yes, indeed, Kansas City, Bob.

I get around to all of it when I'm there, but I'm talking specifically about the Missouri side. The Kansas side is mainly suburban developments and shopping malls (in most ways an improvement over what it used to be, but still not what the MO side is).

We always head to Stroud's for pan-fried chicken.

My sister moved there from DC a couple of years ago, and although there's a lot that she misses about the culture back east, she admits that the city does have its charms. She lives near the River Market, which has a bit of a bohemian feel about it, much more ethnic diversity than you see in much of KC. Nice, laid back vibe. And although I kind of think that the Plaza tries a little too hard, there certainly is no dearth of places to eat and drink.

Hoke - she hadn't yet been in the Cellar Rat but I told her about your post and she's going to make a point of visiting it when she returns from this trip back to DC.

Hoke, I'm with ya on the Southeast Q! Pulled pork and baby-back ribs just cannot be beat. Brisket is what we'd throw in as an afterthought in Georgia, and bbq bologna?!?... YECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
