Fiddleheads!

by JoePerry » Tue May 15, 2007 6:47 pm

I just finished up a plate of delicious fiddlehead ferns. The season is so short, just two or three weeks, that I forget about these until they pop up at my local marketplace. They really are quite good. I’ve only had them prepared one way - garlic and butter - but there's no need to mess with a good thing!

Anyone else a fan?

Thanks for giving me a heads up on the fiddleheads, I have missed them entirely in past years!
So, what wine do you like with them? I used to pair them with a Grenache Rose from Windsor that had a bit of sweetness, excellent acidity and lovely strawberry and watermelon flavors. The combination was a "spring thing" for a number of years, some years back!
Sadly, Windsor was bought out by Aussies who killed off the bottling along with other favorites of mine while they set about "internationalizing" the Windsor lineup. Tom V

I didn't pair it with anything, but as I ate them I contemplated a potential pairing (not for the first time).

Like you, I thought of Rose first, or maybe a light Gamay...

What? Stuart, I'll have you know, is entirely a self made man, especially when it comes to his food and wine matches. Besides the tool to which you refer is soooo East Coast.

What's the point of being a self made man these days? I don't even decide what socks to wear anymore... not since I found the perfect online tool for matching socks to shoes.
