Urban legend or true?

by Bob Ross » Mon Apr 09, 2007 12:26 pm

Another shopper told me that the color of bread ties indicates the day the bread was baked and packaged:

Monday - Blue

Tuesday - Green

Thursday - Red

Friday - White

Saturday - Yellow

The colors go alphabetically by color Blue - Green - Red - White Yellow, Monday thru Saturday.

[Don't know what happens on Wednesday.]

Any truth to this?

Bob,

This is actually true! My "Urban Legend" source is snopes.com and it claims that this legend is true. Here is the article:

Interesting...I never heard this before. HTH!

btw, if you ever get E-mail horror stories from friends/family that have been forwarded numerous times, snopes.com is the place to find out if it's true or false.

As long as we're at it, did you ever wonder why you could smell freshly baked bread when the bread was sealed in those polyethylene bags?

Aroma substances are added to the ink on the package.
And now what?

Yes. (As it happens, I knew this one but Maria is quite right that Snopes is the place to check.)

My wife used to be CFO of a local bread baker. At that time, the twist ties were color-coded to indicate the day each loaf was baked.
Cheers!
