I'm on 24/7 sick cat nursing duty, so am spending an unaccustomed amount of time watching daytime TV. Between movies, I sometimes watch Food TV.

So which daytime diva do you suppose touted the health benefit of wrapping a slice of bacon around a hot dog? I quote her directly above. Yup, it's Sandra Lee! Cook, tablescaper, and now nutrition consultant. Damn, that woman can do it all!

Sheesh. What a wonderful lunch for your kids - bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Great way to make sure your kid follows the current trends in obesity.

Great way to make sure your kid follows the current trends in obesity.

The food network is running a special Saturday night 9 p.m. Childhood Obesity: Danger Zone

They could use the bacon dogs as an example of what not to do.

I don't know. Sounds delicious to me......

Maybe if the little darlings would get off their butts and run around a little bit, they'd burn off some of those calories..

No I'm not! And you should serve the dogs with chili cheese fries and serve them at a table decorated with lollipops. Here's how you make chili cheese fries: buy a bag of frozen french fries, and buy "the fanciest" ones--crinkle cuts. Bake 'em. While those are in the oven mix a pound of hamburger with a whole jar of chili sauce and add a packet of chili seasoning. Stir, and dump over the fries when they're done. Yum yum. And so good for you.

Don't forget the jar full of cheese sauce that gets poured over the top! Sprinkle a little extra chili seasoning on top of the cheese for the "gourmet" presentation.

Mike, I was actually waiting for the jar of Cheese Whiz and it didn't happen, but I think she made up for it with the jar of ketchup, I mean chili sauce. :)

You know what, I grew up in a religion that used to refer to the predicament (common within its ranks) of a believing person married to a nonbelieving person as a "divided household". It was a very serious issue, and so hours of church time was devoted to dealing with it as both a partner and a parent. As a vegetarian married to a junk food junkie, you'd probably relate to just about every lesson they thought of--it's so far beyond the simple "we don't like the same thing on our pizza" problems most couples face.

Glad Jimmy's staying thin. For all the cheese you pour into him, your influence must surely figure into this. :)

While the stereotype image of a vegetarian is one of a slight build, I will observe that elephants are vegetarians, as are hippopotami and rhinoceri.

Not to be confused with Daddy, of course, who has neither tusks nor horns, nor wallows in shallow water unduly much. But there are plenty of calories in the wine that wallows often in Daddy! :) (not to mention cooking oils, and naturally-occurring fats (e.g., avocados)).

Yes, well, you've witnessed me packing it away, so you would know.
