Potato candy

I was reading about some old-timey desserts and ran across potato candy. Potatoes (preferably russet) are cooked, mashed, cooled, and mixed with powdered sugar to form a pliable dough. The dough is then rolled thin, spread with peanut butter, and rolled up into a log before being chilled and sliced into sweet, soft, pinwheels.

In the '50s and '60s, I loved my aunt's rendition of potato candy. I have her recipe and have made my own a few times many decades ago. And, no, it tastes nothing of potatoes.

Anyone else ever eat this confection?

I've never heard of this one nor has my wife. Sounds interesting and very easy to make, though.

I've never heard of potato candy, either. The concept reminds me of another unconventional (to Westerners) application of potatoes. In the European tradition potatoes are mainly treated as a starch staple. In China the starch staples are wheat (especially in the North) and rice (especially in the South). Potatoes are treated as a vegetable, not a starch. It's commonplace to see a dish containing potatoes served with lots of rice.
