I found a $100 bill once, too. It was lying on the ground at a restaurant valet door service, folded into a tight square and I figured came out of the really tight pants of the guy who peeled out in his Ferrari just as we arrived. There was no room for a wallet!
I still pick up money too. There are two $1 bills here on my desk found under a chair at a recent doctor's appointment. I didn't used to bend over for pennies. But when Bob was in the hospital back in 2001 after having a renalectomy for a malignant kidney tumor, I passed a penny in the hospital parking structure. I walked by, then stopped, and though not the least bit superstitious, facing an uncertain future I decided I couldn't afford to pass it by. Next thing you know I bought a piggy bank, the first of four I'd fill over the rest of Bob's life which, miraculously, he didn't lose to kidney cancer (the survival rate is only 5% at five years, so I can't imagine what the rate is for 20 years). So maybe the pennies worked! I plan to empty them and spend the cash on something cool--a rainy day project for the darker months ahead. I did count once, many many years ago--and we'd already accumulated around $40. Must be at least $60 now, though there haven't been many recent additions. In the last 5-6 years loose change has practically disappeared.
