More on Food TV

The finale of Top Chef last night went just as I hoped it would and believed it should. Won't mention names in case someone else hasn't seen it yet, but....

Recently saw the new competition 24 on 24, which I'll admit to liking. It's real chefs, real cooking, even though I'll admit to getting tired of the same chefs showing up on all the shows, including everything Guy Fieri does (based on commercials, I don't watch the shows themselves.)

At the highest level of qualities, though, is the Chef's Table series on Netflix that I binged through this week. Keller, Waters, Oliver, Andres...thoughtful stuff. I was especially impressed with Jamie Oliver's episode, he's done a lot more for mankind than I was aware of.

Speaking of which, here's those four chefs talking about their favorite restaurants around the world, which made me feel like such a dud as I've not been to any of them:

Top Chef was top shelf this year. I believe it was my most enjoyable season. Perfect ending.

Wasn't it? I was disappointed when Massimo got the boot (at that point Bailey would have been my choice to go) but I can't argue about the rest and boy did Tristan deserve the win. I would kill to taste his injera shrimp toast, btw.

I'm with you on this one. I don't believe Bailey was as strong a cook as Massimo, nor was she as creative. My thought is that they wanted to have at least one female make it to the finale and all the others has flamed out(and a couple of them I thought were better than Bailey). I'm comforted by the thought that I'm sure the judges had something special lined up for Massimo beyond the show. But, in the end, I knew it was going to come down to Shuai and Tristan.

I too wondered if that choice wasn't influenced more by production than merit, and I don't recall being suspicious like that in prior seasons. Massimo's food was more elevated and technique driven to my eye, he took bigger chances and delivered what appeared me to be more Top Chef quality.
