are there no 4 pound chickens?

So what genius decided to limit poultry defrosting in the microwave to 3 pounds? I have a 4 plus pound chicken and the microwave almost cooked it after I added a needed second defrost run.

I knew I was going to find something to hate about the thing.

Thats like looking for a 10-12 lb Turkey, or a 2 Boneless Chicken Breast package. The marketers have made it impossible for 2 people to buy just what they need. Always got to squeeze a little more moola out of you for un-needed product.

Thomas - defrosting (or even cooking) a chicken is one thing I never use a microwave for. Microwaves can easily ruin chicken - turning them to rubber. You're better off putting it in a big pot in the sink and letting cold water run over it. In fact, the only time chicken sees the inside of my microwave is if I'm warming up leftover chicken soup.

Howie,

I kind of came to that conclusion. Score one against the microwave. I'm doggedly seeking reasons to hate the thing, either that or I have to take back all the years of having said I will never use one!
