White Truffle Oil Taste Test

by Jenise » Thu Sep 19, 2024 2:04 pm

I found myself craving the taste of white truffle this week. I used to pretty much always have some white truffle oil in the pantry to drizzle on certain things but I've been out for about two years because I was unable to replace the one I liked so much. I finally decided to check out Amazon's options and as a result bought Roland and Urbani. Both met my single criteria: must have a piece of actual truffle floating in it.

The Roland's the loser. It clearly has artificial flavoring in it despite the tiny chunk of truffle. The Urbani, however, smells like real truffle and at the same time it also smells like a very high class Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Twice the price, but worth it.

Go for the Burgundy Black Truffle Carpaccio (the truffle honeycomb is also good, as are the fresh products): https://www.regalisfoods.com/collection ... y-truffles

I buy black and white truffle butter, it is excellent. How is the oil different than the butter?

I've often wondered about truffle oil. So much of it is just olive oil and 2,4-dithiapentane.

I've bought the carpaccio before. Also bought the same style truffles from Truffle Hunter. Both really good.

Different uses. Drizzling the oil over various things, like I did this morning with Bob's froached eggs, is delightful. Also drizzle into ramen soups, over seafood and asparagus, and over the Tuscan braised chicken I made a few days ago--just for example.
