Tasting History by Max Miller, a food blogger, is pretty interesting. It races recipes (and his recreations of old recipes) through the ages, from the ancient world through the early 20th C. And some of the recipes sound pretty tasty - I may make 'Farts of Portingale' (spiced meatballs with fruit and spices c. 1597) at one of my wine lunches.
From an historical point of view, the author seems to be pretty sound - I haven't caught him out yet on a point where I\d call foul on it being factual
