Popcorn in turkey stuffing...never heard of that. Anyone had it, is it actually good? OK, I only read the ingredients, did not look at the instructions, until now.

I know the popcorn stuffing is parody, but here's an actual snippit from my 1946 edition of "Joy of Cooking" that some might not assume was real:

Tom, my jaw dropped reading that. But it reminds me of a few gems in the old Larousse Gastronomy that I own (newer versions have been bowdlerized). I haven't read every page so there are likely some things I haven't uncovered yet, but there's a classic recipe in the old one for cooking crow, wherein certain things are put in a pot, the lid is then put in place upside down, so it's now like a bowl, and the crow is put in the lid. After a certain amount of cooking the instructions are to throw the crow away then eat what's in the pot.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Here in Louisville there's a similar recipe for a mint julep, with the mint in the place of the crow. :)
