Whoopie...

Peeps are back. I think they're disgusting but wife likes them. Yuck. But, then, she likes me. No accounting for taste, I guess.

It's that time of year, isn't it! Had to make a stop this morning, saw lots of Easter stuff. True story: years ago when I had to pack a lunch for Bob every day, I saw some big plastic eggs, 1 each color, about six total. Bought them. Day before Easter I made him all kinds of things that would fit in those eggs. Off he went to work and stuffed his bag in the operating room fridge with all the others. Later went to get his lunch. Later, apparently uncertain which bag was his, he opened several to try to figure it out. Couldn't find his, actually saw the eggs in one and thought "what crazy person would do THAT?", then decided to check his car thinking he must have left his lunch behind. Halfway to the parking lot it dawned on him--JENISE WOULD DO IT, THAT'S WHO. :) Best lunch idea ever.

They're marshmallows shaped into animals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peeps

BTW, I've never tasted real marshmallow. Any of you?

Not me. Such is my dislike for the supermarket variety that I've never sought out the other. Either way it's squishy, sweet egg white...not going to be a winner for me.

If you mean, with boiled mallow in it, no, I don't think so.

I've had nice regular marshmallows made by a chef. They are not so springy as what you get in the store. It's along the lines of the same difference between whipped cream and Bavarian cream. Meringue-y.

Yeah, I mean the original confection made from the marsh-mallow, Althaea officinalis, i.e., any variation of Pâte de Guimauve, a spongy-soft candy with whipped, dried marshmallow roots containing sugar, water, and egg whites.

Indeed. Admittedly I'm a fan of sweets, but lots of types of marshmallows and plenty of well-crafted versions these days. Springy stale supermarket ones are not the last word.

Ah Peeps. Years ago on another forum( Gail’s recipe swap if anyone remembers it) someone took exception to a thread about peeps, obviously didn’t open the post and curiously thought it was pornography, Started an extraordinary flame war for no reason.
I’d no idea what they were but the original post sent me off on a quick search and found those Easter trees.
And like Jeff I loved the microwave jousting peeps, :)

Even worse, IMO, are circus peanuts, which I think are the worst candy ever invented. But if you like sweet cardboard, I guess they're for you. A friend likes them when they reach a certain staleness. Yuck!
