In a previous post, I was complaining about one brand of tongs I have because the grippers are so slippery I can't grasp anything without it shooting across the counter.

Last Tuesday I happened to be watching America's Test Kitchen in which they they tested tongs. The winner was OXO tongs, and I thought maybe I'd take a look at them. The next day I happened to drop in on an estate sale and acquired the very same OXO tongs for fifty cents. They work great and grip things. Woo-hoo!

Well done Larry!
Tongs are yay or bleh
I was at a community’s local lunch last week and the silicone tipped tongs for the salad were useless.
O was going to say you get what you pay for, but with the exception being garage sales.

Silicone tips are ONLY useful in salads. You need metal to truly hang onto anything.

I use run-of-the-mill metal tongs and have been happy with them. I own several cooking instruments from OXO and like them very much. Haven't tried their tongs, though.

The best tongs I ever owned were a dollar at a garage sale. They were long, heavy metal, locking, grabbed things and were quite sturdy. I loved them, but must have left them at someone's bbq and never saw them again. Whenever I'm in a restaurant supply store or cooking store, I always look for something similar, but no bananas. Even on the internet. C'est la vie.
