V8. And agar

by Barb Downunder » Wed Oct 30, 2019 4:40 am

Just funny.
I am thinking of things to serve, my vegetarian S-I-L. The weather is getting warmer so heading down that path. And a savoury jelly made with V8 juice came to mind as a component.
So I searched the net for V8 juice jelled with agar and the top hits were microbiology culture products particularly suited to growing fungi. I could see truffles with that.

Perhaps using the word "aspic" instead of "agar" will get you more palatable results? The ones I saw look like a cross between gazpacho and Jell-O. :)

Yes that would have been a better Search string.! :but I did need it to be agar not gelatine and I’m not confident with either gelatin or agar.
Gazpacho jello was actually where my brain was heading, after successfully using jazzed up V8 juice with garnishes as a tapas dish.
But have decided on a mushroom lasagne, and salad, and .....

And now I think About my days in a microbiology lab,the texture of the culture medium was close to the mark.
