Interesting food find: green garbanzos!

Not dried, but frozen, like peas. I added them to a crab paella last night for color and texture--great wow factor. Super delicious and useful, it's like someone invented a new vegetable.

Are they anything like gandules (green pigeon peas)? There are suddenly a lot of those (frozen) in my market and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. Wacky cassoulet, maybe?

I only know of gandules as essential to Puerto Rican rice. Arroz con gandules, which I've never had, and I thought was only prepared from dried (where they're yellow). But when I googled it just now, a greener canned option is apparently popular too.

I don't think they're similar to garbanzos. We see fresh garbanzos up here a lot, at least in the stores that cater to agricultural labor. It's a very popular snack in the part of Mexico (Jalisco, I think--if not that then another 'J' word) that a lot of local migrants hail from. They come in a very thin, papery little pods, but only one or two peas to a pod. Would take some time to create a dish using same. The frozen ones don't look like, but have a very similar sweetness and cooked texture, to fava beans.

Where did you actually find green garbanzos? Were they dried or canned?

As my original post said, frozen. Like buying frozen peas.
