That's not a Komado (sp?), is it?

Yup. It's not Kamado brand (his was), but it's a BGE style charcoal cooker made out of cement. No tiles to fall off like Bob's Kamado, no ugly green to put up with like a BGE. Just real purdy shiny black, and strong quality build.

And it's living on our front porch at the moment because we don't have a cover for it yet.

I'd been looking at them for awhile now but couldn't stomach the $1K price tag. This one's currently for sale on Amazon for around $7-800. But Home Depot has it on sale for just $470, and free shipping. So I bit.

If you haven't already, consider getting a temperature controller for it. Useful in general, but especially for low and slow.

Greg, this is a charcoal cooker. How would you mechanically control temps?

A fan sits in the lower air vent and is connected to a controller box which has multiple probes. One probe sits in the cooker and registers air temp inside the cooker and turns the fan on and off to maintain temp. Other probes can be inserted in the food and this registers internal temp. Some even have wifi control from an app on your phone.

Here are a couple of examples. I have had mine for about 10 years and I am starting to look for a new controller. A must, IMO, for overnight smoking.

Makes sense! I'm copying your links and sending those to my husband. Thanks!
