Happy Birthday, Larry G!

by Jenise » Mon Jan 15, 2007 3:47 pm

"We'll have some pie
and chocolate cake
and chocolate ice cream too.
We'll sing and play
the day away
and one more thing
we're gonna do...

We'll blow out the candles
on your birthday cake
And when you do
a wish we'll make
we'll blow out the candles on your birthday cake
you're another year old today!"

Ten points to anyone who can identify that song.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Wow! Another orbit around the sun. I now live with a woman two years younger, who took me out to dinner last night. I chose an old-fashioned steakhouse, Paul's Monterey Inn, which I hadn't been to for several years.

I started with a Sapphire martini, stirred not shaken (James Bond had it all wrong--he wanted to be a rebel). Soup, salad and a full cut of the most tender prime rib on the planet accompanied by a glass of cab sav. Then a strawberry shortcake with a candle, courtesy of the restaurant.

In an odd coincidence, I'm chatting with my wife when suddenly a gentleman appears next to our booth. It's someone I know from a writing class that I teach. I discover his wife's birthday is the same as mine. He's taking his wife out for her birthday and they sit in the very next booth.

That restaurant is now smoke free, different from the last time I was there. They now have a separate lounge with a glass door and some super ventilation.

Before the anti-smoking ordinance was passed a few years, they were in the forefront of opposition, stating like so many restaurateurs that they'd lose business. Of course, nothing of the sort happened. Albuquerque restaurants have added clientele that avoided restaurants because of the smoke. All it takes is one smoker even on the other side of the dining room to ruin an experience. Huzzah for the ordinance.

Happy Birthday Larry!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
