I recently bought some olive oil (azeite in Portuguese) that was produced by a coop in the NE of Portugal -
Cooperativa de Olivicultores de Valpaços. There was a website listed on the bottle, so I had a look and came across an interesting video:

Now, the first 1:20 is pretty dire, but for the next few minutes they demonstrate how an old style olive oil mill and press works. I've seen these things in various states of repair around Portugal, but never saw one in action. If the plaque being unveiled at around the 5:00 mark is correct, this setup dates from 1550. Gives one an appreciation for modern technology - maybe Alice F. would prefer the old way, even though it is clearly not cold extraction!
BTW, the extra virgin from the coop is pretty good and a great value (about $8 for 750ml).
