Tell us more. I'm visualizing a packet of ramen, but I suspect that's not what you have in mind.

Instant Pot, a dehydrated herbaceous substance that, when reconstituted with water...

Nah, that's the brand name of one of the most popular of the new-fangled electronic pressure cookers. It sautes, pressure cooks, steams, slow cooks, and with the right model even makes yogurt.

I just got one a few days ago and the flavor of things pressure-cooked is amazing!

Made this last night: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/211127/pre ... -carnitas/ and served it over red beans and rice with guac. Wow!

Yes. There are a number of sizes / models. I just got the basic 5-qt when it was on a 1-day sale for $68.00. I wish I had got one with a yogurt mode and I may upgrade when I prove to myself that I'm gong to use this on a regular basis. So far I'm impressed.

Mike F. bought something like this a few years ago. Wonder if he's gotten much use out of it.

Ours is a Thermomix. We've had our ups and downs with it. Among other things, it makes good risotto and some of the best lemon curd I've ever had. We have to think about using it, though, so that means there are long stretches where we forget about it and it just sits. It works very well, though, and you could certainly get a lot of use out of it if you got into the habit.

It doesn't use pressure, though. Just carefully controlled heat and stirring.

Interesting device. If it does each job as well as a dedicated device (at least pressure cooker, rice and slow cooker) I might be interested. We use pressure cooker and rice cooker fairly often, slow cooker a few times a year. Never felt the need for a yogurt maker.

Carnitas is a great thing to do in pressure cooker, I like the Modernist recipe

Like a French mother, I can't imagine a kitchen without a pressure cooker. I also appreciate the greenness, especially in summer when I can bring something up to pressure on stovetop in 5-10 minutes, and then let sit, when it might have needed over on for an hour (heating up kitchen AND using gas).
