Food Tidbits

by Bill Spohn » Mon Feb 29, 2016 10:32 am

Most of my extensive library is packed for a move and all I could find to read was an old book by the British actor Richard Briers and his wife. a collection of food related material entitled 'A Taste of the Good Life' (he was in a 1970s series called Th Good life).

A couple tickled my fancy:

Soliloquy of a Tortoise
on Revisiting
the Lettuce Beds
after an Interval of One Hour
while supposed
to be
Sleeping
in a Clump
of Blue Hollyhocks

"One cannot have enough
of this delicious stuff"

I'll throw in a Dickens quote from Pickwick Papers

Tongue; well, that's a wery good thing when it ain't a woman's

And an Oscar Wilde:

To make make a good salad is to be a brilliant diplomatist - the problem is the same in both cases. To know exactly how much oil one must put with one's vinegar.

And finally:

A good cook is like a sorceress who dispenses happiness

I'll pass the book on to others to read (Jenise, want a look?)

Bill

I've ordered the book.

1p second hand on Amazon plus postage.

I loved The Good Life with the ensemble of Tom and Barbara and neigbours Jerry and Margo.

I also enjoyed To the Manor Born.
Picked up the DVD set and intend to revisit them once I have retired. Maybe after I rewatch Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister!

The book arrived a couple of days ago; just had a quick scan of it so far, but like what I see.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
