Pie of the Day

As mentioned in the meat thread, we went to have the 'Pie of the Day' at the Carpenters Arms, the smallest pub in Harpenden, Herts. It's the front rooms of two terraced cottages with the dividing wall removed, which means there's a fireplace in each half, and the fires were welcome.

Pie of the day when we went was minced beef and onion, and we substituted the boiled pots for god's own vegetable, i.e. chips. And these thick chips crispy on outside and soft within are worthy of a detour. Wine match Rioja.

Unfortunately they're only open for lunch, Tuesday to Friday. All the food is made on site, hams cured, pie and its, shortcrust pastry and so on..

Previous time we went Pie was Chicken, Ham and Leek. Best one I've had there was Steak and Mushroom when we went as a group in the evening and they .cooked specially for us.

Damn that pie looks good. "Pie of the Day" would have me there all the time. There are few things I like more.
