So what makes brewed tea go skunky?

I've never bothered to ask before, but had an outdoor party not too long ago, and put out a couple of large jugs of Pure Leaf Tea.

One of them had a noticeable skunkiness to it.

Prolonged heat exposure? Sunstruck? Microbial (doesn't sound right for tea though)?

Skunkiness? a bad smell?

Just one, and the other was ok?

Sounds like the bad jug wasn't clean.
