Hey Winger! Pepe's pizzeria on Food Network

by Robin Garr » Tue Jun 30, 2015 9:14 pm

It looks as if the younger generation is morphing this icon into a chain, though, which rarely bodes well.

News release:

With seven locations and an eighth on the way (Boston), Frank Pepe Pizzeria has been celebrating their 90th anniversary this year. It wasn’t always an easy journey, and looking back over the 90 years of success is a true tale in itself.

This summer the iconic pizzeria will be featured in the Food Network series “Top 5 Restaurants” Best Pizza Episodes. Available starting July 1 is the much-anticipated annual summer Fresh Tomato Pie special, served daily until Pepe’s can no longer get red, ripe, delicious, locally grown tomatoes.

The pizzeria also serves Foxon Park Soda’s – a local Connecticut soda since 1922 that’s delicious!

In 1925, Frank and Filomena, two Italian immigrants who knew not much else but how to make their homeland’s most delicious food, opened a bakery with a coal-fired oven. Bread turned into pizza and the place is still booming with business today.

The business is now run by their ten grandchildren, and operating locations throughout CT, NY and now MA. Their main goal is to ensure the original recipes are adhered to for the famous coal-fired pizza. They’re known for their signature White Clam Pizza, created by Frank in the 1960’s using real shucked clams, and the summer’s Fresh Tomato Pie.
