The oven of the future?

by Mike Filigenzi » Tue Jun 09, 2015 10:06 pm

There are probably aspects of this oven that would be nice. If they've really put a lot of work into getting even and accurate temperatures throughout the oven cavity, then that's a good thing. Maybe a live video feed of my food cooking would be handy on rare occasions. But overall, I think they're pushing the "set it and forget it" aspect a little too hard for my taste.

June, the amazing smart oven.

Love this quote: “It’s always surrounding your food with hot air,” Change "your food" to "promotion" and you've got it right.

I would have arguments with an oven that thinks it's smarter. Come to think of it, how many here have kitchens that are connected to their smart phone apps?

In this home, resisting is the realm! And since I refuse to own a smart phone--oh, well, resist.

I sort of want one, but the price of entry is steep.

I didn't see a lot of advantage to it. There are already ovens with integrated meat thermometers that will transmit to a portable receiver (although that's not as useful or cool as transmitting to your phone). I think it would be good for those who really do want to just get something in the oven and have it cooked to order without having to worry about over- or undercooking. Being a hobbyist, though, I like the part about worrying about the food and learning how to get it done the way I want it through my own experience. On the other hand, it would be nice to have an oven that's extremely precise and even in its heating. The article doesn't mention anything about baking - I wonder how it would do with that?

Not that I'm going to find out. As you say, Robin, it's a bit on the pricey side.

Ah yes, soon we won't even need to cook our own food. Seems we might as well be stamped "obsolete."

What would really be nice is for Merrell shoelaces to tie themselves--and stay tied!

I am reminded of the KL-1000: http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~magi/personal/humour/Computer_Audience/Product%20Announcement:%20KL-1000.html

about your posture, automatically. All you do is nothing. Just set it at
"HIGH" and run away."

How do you say FUSSY ? Some good ideas but are they really necessary if you understand ingredients and methods ?

Indeed. It was funnier when it was first published, but I think there's enough salvageable bits in there.

" Or remain in the room yourself; the unit travels freely on its own, and will simulate your signature on major purchases of clothing, art, and real estate without your even knowing."

So this is a spousal replacement technology?
