List update: Two more Trader Joe's products I love

Their plain flour tortillas, which I only recently tried for the first time (I rarely buy flour vs. corn), are stunning. They're like cake: good flavor, great texture, a huge step up from any other flour tortilla I can remember having except one freshly made in front of my eyes.

Their multi-grain English muffins. Every other multi-grain or even whole wheat English muffin I've ever tried, including the ubiquitous Orowheat and Thomas's (did I spell that right?) has tasted cardboardy and has had an even worse mealy texture. They never get crisp. But Trader Joe's have a deep wholesome grainy flavor and they get perfectly crisp.

On deck to try: their pork belly.

Those tortillas are definite winners. Lorena thinks they are about as close to tasting like the ones her mom makes as you can get. That's high praise from her.

High praise indeed, Jim. I never had a Mexican mama to make them for me, but I do remember when the original El Torito Grill opened in Newport Beach--they had a little Mexican lady in the lobby area who hand-made the flour tortillas that were served on the tables. That's the flavor memory that the Trader Joe's tortillas awakened.

1. Beef tamales.

2. Various goat and sheep cheeses (lover can't eat cow products).
