The fork.

by Thomas » Thu Nov 16, 2006 3:32 pm

It's time to do away with it--or lessen its use.

Last night, as I kept trying to hold the rice dish on my fork I wondered why I simply don't just use a spoon for rice.

This morning, over some slithery sunnyside up eggs, same problem.

What's with this fork invention anyway. Do you think it will last? Should it last?

Warning: this complaint comes form a guy who can't do a thing with his hands if he has gloves on them.

I have the same problem trying to eat soup with a fork. However, trying to eat spaghetti with a spoon and no fork can present problems.

Spaghetti? What's the spoon for? Can't you twirl with one hand?

Spaghetti: you're supposed to cut it with a knife then eat it with a spoon. And no whiplash either!

Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

Last night I tested my theory at dinner. Used a spoon to eat my yellow rice with morrocan olives. My wife threw an olive at me for being stupid, and for embarrassing her in front of the neighbors who joined us for dinner...

At least it wasn't a fork she threw.

James Beard said you should use your hands when cooking unless it was essentially necessary to use something else. Wonder if he meant the same thing for eating? :)
