POLL: Is Cheesecake a cake or a pie?

by Jenise » Wed Oct 10, 2012 6:56 pm

Forget the fact that there's 'cake' in the name. It's flat, it's short, there's usually a crust and you cut it into wedges. However, it is made with flour and eggs. Cake or pie?

Have to admit, I tend to think of it more as pie.

Pie, I say. Clear demarcation of crust and contents say pie. Lemon bars like I said in another post is probably a kind of pie too..the kind I like to have on vacations! :D

You left out the "Other" option. It's cheesecake! Sui generis! That's like asking "is cannoli a cake or a pie?"

I vote pie. Crust? Yes. Eggs? Yes. Flour? No.

Even if I didn't ignore the fact that 'cake' is in the name, when I think about cake cheesecake doesn't immediately come to mind. But when I think of pie, cheesecake doesn't immediately come to mind then either. It's almost an entity to itself. But that wasn't an option.

On purpose. Categorization WILL occur, and you must choose!
