Forbes Mag estimates the top ten earning chefs

by Jenise » Thu Jul 19, 2012 11:02 am

Somewhat predictable, though I'm surprised to see Guy Fieri so close to Bobby Flay and both behind Todd English.

1: Gordon Ramsay, $38 million
2: Rachael Ray, $25 million
3: Wolfgang Puck, $20 million
4: Paula Deen, $17 million
5: Mario Batali, $13 million
6: Alain Ducasse, $12 million
7: Todd English, $11 million
8: Nobu Matsuhisa, $10 million
9: Bobby Flay, $9 million
10: Guy Fieri, $8 million

Something doesn't seem right about including Rachel Ray on that list.

I don't bedgrudge her her millions. But 'chef' is a bit of a stretch.

Rahsaan nailed it. Rachel Ray? Chef?

I agree re: Ms. Ray but ask this follow up: What would you call her? Kitchen personality? Cook (as opposed to Chef)? TV star?

I'd say that Guy Fieri is also a stretch for the term "chef".

I meant to mention that! And not as easy on the eyes as Rachael, either. :P

Just a reminder that Rachael Ray is the first one to tell you that she is not a "chef". She has said it over and over, on her show, during interviews, and her magazine. She is a smart lady, and a very hard worker. She has spent a lot of years, building to where she is now. I've tried many of her recipes and know what? Most have been excellent. She delivers bold flavors, combined with ease of preparation, and ingredients that can be found anywhere. She holds her own in the world of folks who cook for a living. Anyone who loves their family and dogs as much as she does, is a person I admire. :)

How about a list of the ten top-earning poets? Or the ten top-earning scientists?

I think this is just so irrelevant. I honest to God don't care how many millions of dollars Guy Fieri makes on the ignorance of the American public. Or Rachel either, or Kim Kardashian for that matter.

What has occurred to me, after eating at Manresa and meeting David Kinch, is that a great chef is more of a poet than a hash slinger. Take the time to read the article below, I think it's a great description of how David Kinch thinks. And I doubt he will ever be on anyone's list of Top Ten Earners.

If you hadn't noticed, a lot of rubbish gets published in various media outlets.

While it may not interest you, it hardly seems like the most obscure or the most illogical story to run. People like chefs, people like celebrities, people like money, people like reading about celebrity chefs with money.
