Foods you could eat every day if you didn't stop yourself...

by Jeff B » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:15 pm

I don't know what it is, but some foods seem to be "as one" with your soul. Usually in a decadent fashion. If you didn't stop yourself, you could almost literally eat them on a daily basis. For me such foods would be:

Pizza
Hamburgers
Mashed Potatoes
Fresh baked butter glazed bread/rolls
Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pork -- almost any part of the pig and almost any way it's prepared.

Salami--basically, that whole category of cured ground meats, especially those made by Armandino Batali
'Sandwiches' of two carefully selected matching sizes of Ruffles potato chips filled with a slice of cold Havarti, cheddar or Muenster cheese*
Mothers' brand pink and white frosted animal cookies

Lay's Classic Potato Chips dipped in non-fat sour cream

A good dry thin slice of salami topped with Havarti cheese, and a pepperoncini pepper, on a crisp Ritz cracker

M & M Peanut candies

The brown bits on the bottom of a pan, from chicken, beef, ham, roast turkey or chicken

I don't know that there are any main course foods that I would eat every day if I didn't stop myself, because for the most part my enjoyment of food is enhanced by the fact that I'm not eating it all the time. For example, I love cheese. But eating too much can be heavy, and it's always nice to take a refreshing break of a few days.

Tomatoes may be the one ingredient that I would try to add to any meal. But thankfully god made the out-of-season tomatoes mostly dreadful, so I stick to the summer months and therefore have even more incentive to use them every day while I can.

You probably know of my tomato addiction. I *do* eat them almost every day--but they're a healthy food and therefore not something you or I need to stop ourselves from eating. Unlike salami and potato chips....

I know what you mean about Peanut M & M's Karen. Those are addicting little guys. One handful never seems to be enough.

Me too, on both counts. The grilled cheese must, however, be on good Jewish corn rye with roasted green chiles.

Non-battered, super crispy, Buffalo wings. ("skateboard" portion only. No drummettes please.)
Really good baby back ribs.
I'm with Karen and Jeff on the peanut M&Ms.
Just out of the oven Tollhouse cookies.

Ben & Jerry, Hagen Daz, ice cream a small bowl every evening. My wife's chocolate chip cookies while they are still warm out of the oven. I actually eat very little of the three items mentioned so as to keep my weight reasonable.
I probably would never turn down a handful of good cashews so we don't keep them in the house.

Never heard the term skateboard. In fact, I've had no name for that part of the wing. It's just been the drummette and "the other part". I'll never be able to think of it any other way now, though.

Someone I used to work with in the early 90s used to call them that, and I just assumed it was an official term. Maybe not, judging by the lack of matching results in a Google search! It does make sense though, don't you think? I think we should help it catch on.

Croissantes!

I could eat these every day for breakfast with some good black coffee. Fortunately really good ones are hard to find, so I only do this 1 or 2 days a week.

Nah, that's across the water. We West Vancouverites rarely leave our enclave to venture among the crowded masses! The bridge is supposed to keep them out unless they've had their shots!

I'll see if I can get a friend who lives there to bring some over though!

I also love croissants, but my intake is heavily dependent on how much time I spend in France. When not in France it's closer to 1 or 2 per year.

That said, on a recent trip to Princeton I discovered this place: http://www.littlechefpastries.com/home, which is a true unexpected gem with all the textures perfect. It was even more perfect because of the scale, small enough so that everyone who needs a croissant buys them within minutes of when they come out of the oven at 8:45am. Something which would not work in Nyc! But that freshness made the textures so perfect. Which is of course essential for a croissant. Not the most forgiving pastry in terms of the conditions in which it is consumed.
