From Serious Eats:
"The USDA has introduced a new certification for extra-virgin olive oil, called the Quality Monitoring Program. The QMP verifies the purity and quality of the olive oil, and conducts rigorous tests and inspections to ensure that the certification standards are upheld by producers. The first company to receive the QMP logo, Pompeian Inc. in Baltimore, imports olive oil from the Mediterranean region and South America. The company's oils will begin carrying the QMP logo later this month."

Thanks, Fred. Any idea whether there is any rigor involved in this QMP or is it just a rubber-stamp?
Any chance it can be applied to honey, too?

Jeff, don't really know any more than that brief blurb I posted. Just came across it in reading the few blogs I check daily and found it interesting. I remember something about Pompeian being singled out for quality (if not flavor) somewhere else in the past.

The problem with olive oils is there is very little control over what the label says and what is really in the bottle. Especially among the more expensive (vintage dated) olive oils.
