I have made restaurant choices for a lot of reasons, but that certainly isn't one that has occurred to me.

You talking about this?

If I was hosting a women's history night and wanted to take it to a restaurant owned by a woman as a symbolic gesture of sorts, then I think it might be a nice thing to do. Otherwise, as others have said, it's not particularly relevant, although any piece of information that sheds light on a restaurant probably has some value.

I can't say gender would play a part for me. How about you?

I don't think the gender of the chef would play a conscious role in my decision, anyway. Subconscious, who knows?

Doesn't ever occur to me to wonder about the gender of the owner.

I'm much more concerned about skill and cleanliness than gender.

I usually have no idea what the gender of the owner or chef is. Guess it doesn't matter to me. :)

NOBODY makes this kind of choice as a matter of daily practice. Well, maybe some deeply devout feminists do, but.

However, at the risk of repetition, this question that arose from a thread in a different forum springs from a misunderstanding: The original poster in the original forum was looking for a place to take a women's history study group, and they wanted to choose a female-owned restaurant as a symbolic gesture.

Does anyone here really see a problem with that? Or have any reason whatsoever to be judgmental about it?

Just curious ...

I think we have an issue in your post, Robin.

Six capital letters in a row?

Do you think they grow on trees?

Who are you shouting at?

How can... never mind.

excuse me but i'd just like to interject that anybody making a big issue out of someone wanting to make a symbolic gesture on a special occasion has never, ever lived with a woman who likes to decorate her house and watch martha stewart and the hgtv network and follow social mores assiduously.

that, or they have way too much time on their hands to get scholeric about crap like this on a forum.

or both

Gender of ownership never comes to mind as a determining factor.

It would never make an iota of difference to me. It's all about the talent of the chef, who may or may not own the restaurant.

Nope. Doesn't matter to me how someone else chooses a restaurant. Unless they expect me to attend the meal. :D

Wait. I guess I need to expand on that. I have on many occasions gone to a restaurant I would not normally have ever chosen because I wanted to be with whomever else was attending. While food/wine/ambiance etc are important, the company is paramount. If I don't enjoy the people I'm with, the rest of the considerations can't salvage the event, no matter how good they are.

Certainly wouldn't have an issue with that. Seems appropriate for a women's history study group. If I were a part of that group, I might take issue with this if the only place in town run by a woman was horribly overpriced or just bad. Since I don't have to eat the food, I can't imagine why I'd care.

Did others have a problem with this?

So you brought it over to a different forum for discussion? I'm not sure I get that, not that there's a rule against it or anything ...

Robin, get over it! You seem to be the only one trying to create controversy. To save you the trouble, I've deleted the content of my original post and my subsequent reply.
