Some fresh mushrooms are in season

by Bob Henrick » Sun Feb 19, 2012 9:52 am

I am posting this to the forum strictly as a satisfied customer of Oregon Mushrooms LLC. I have no financial concerns with this company.

I get their emails about 4 times per year and am always pleased with their product. Some fresh mushrooms are now in season and some are at very favorable prices. If you are a mushroom lover as I am, I am sure you too will be pleased. click the link just below, then navigate the pages. (Robin, if this is a no-no, then please delete the post)

Why would it be a no-no? It's fine; we appreciate it when others turn us on to good values. What kind of mushrooms are you buying right now?

I haven't decided yet what to order, but yellowfoot, Hedgehogs, black truffles, and black trumpets are in season. I am leaning toward the yellowfoot as they are more versatile...and the truffles are a bit $$$ at $60 for 3oz.

It's been so warm around here that if the thin skin of icy snow ever melts in the woods, I wouldn't be surprised to find some 'rooms under it.

Bob, black trumpets are the closest thing in the mushroom world to a truffle. A decadent pleasure, and not bad at $18 a pound.

Thanks Jenise, about how big of a handful would a pound be? I really have to get some!

Unless your hands are a damn sight bigger than my own, Bob, it'd be quite a bit more than a handful. I'd guesstimate that a handful of fresh black trumpets would probably weigh in the neighborhood of 2-3 oz.
