Food Safety Myths

by Mike Filigenzi » Fri Feb 17, 2012 12:06 pm

Here's an article from USA Today on some common beliefs on food safety that they claim aren't really valid. Not sure there's anything there that will really surprise anyone here, although the comments are kinda interesting. Some folks really don't like being told that washing their produce isn't going to help with bacterial issues.

Interesting, but they lost cred early with this statement " Mayo is a homogenized mixture of oil and water, with egg white to stabilize it." Huh???

Surprised they left the 'five second rule' off that list. Shocked at how many people still believe in it.

Agreed.

I also rolled my eyes about how clean bagged lettuce was because it has been "washed in sanitizing solution at the factory". That's why I wash it, to get rid of the sanitizing solution!

Someone neglected to tell them the ingredients of homemade mayo.

It's USA Today. No one there knows you can make mayo at home.
