The Chew

I got a look at this program yesterday for the first time. It will be the last time I waste my time. Way, way too much hype for me. It is worse than the food channel.

I have been able to take a couple of more looks at the public broadcast channel...Wttwc. I find that the Kimchi cronicles is very interesting. Not that I will ever get into this style of cooking though as I am somewhat strait laced in my cooking. My concept of cuisine is having meatloaf every Friday night. My reaction to the show is a lot of ... how can they eat that stuff.

However they did make a mung bean pancake which I might try assuming that I can find mung beans somewhere. Anyway if you want to take a look at their website the link is ...

The Chew is awful. Housewifey, almost a game show. Or so it seemed when I watched the last 20 minutes or so of the first episode and the last ten minutes of another. In the latter, which was last week, some TV actress "made" a pineapple upside down cake. I had read in the run-up to the show that any and all food would be made in real time, none of this putting all the ingredients in a bowl and then pulling the done thing out of the oven two seconds later. But that's exactly what they did with the pineapple cake, which they fawned all over the actress for making like she invented it and it wasn't an American classic dating back to the 50's, or whenever. Awful.

But hey, the kimchi chronicles. I thought you didn't like public tv and wouldn't support it (I saw your comment on that other thread before you edited it), so why do you lower yourself to watching it?

I have nothing against public tv... as a matter of fact I think that quite often it is far superior to the usual garbage we get with standard programming. My problem is that I do not support taxpayers paying for it. A lot of content is far too left leaning for my tastes. If the programming can survive on the backs of those who want to contribute then more power and success to their efforts. Just don't ask for my tax dollars to support ballet, poetry, opera and countless other activities that I have absolutely no taste for.

That is left leaning content?

Every individual is not supposed to get 100% use of every tax dollar they spend. And nothing any government spends is going to have 100% equal support across society. But that's why it's a society, things get shared and moved around over time, and in the end it's better than living alone on an island.
