La Tourangelle nut oils

by Karen/NoCA » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:00 pm

Do you use them? I have their toasted walnut, hazelnut, pumpkin seed, sesame, and almond. I am amazed at the fresh, strong odor of the nut when I open the cans. I make vinaigrettes with them, it is fun playing with the oil/vinegar combinations. They seem to go fast from my grocery store, and I notice they are bringing in more of the product and have given them a larger space.

We keep their hazelnut oil on hand all the time. We have used others in the past, but rarely use anything besides the hazelnut and an assortment of olive oils.

Yes, I frequently use them. I especially like their walnut oil and will make a vinagrette out of that and a nice pear vinegar, serving with the old standby of red leaf, chopped pears, walnuts and blue cheese. I keep the oils in the fridge so they don't go rancid on me.

I like the toasted nut oils very much. Usually have either the walnut or hazelnut on hand at all times, but I never seem to use up a can before it goes rancid--should do what Carrie does--so I wouldn't have both.

The problem with keeping them in fridge is that since they are in a can and if they congeale, you can't nuke 'em to loosen them up. You just have to put them on the counter and be patient.

I keep them in the refrigerator since I have several of them at all times. They never congeal and we keep our sub-zero at 37°
