Great Pressure Cooker / Slow Cooker Combo

Fagor 670040230 Stainless-Steel 3-in-1 6-Quart Multi-Cooker

This is not a one-trick pony. I think it's worth the counter space.

My 80-year old aunt who doesn't do a lot of cooking these days bought a private label, 4.22 qt. version of this from QVC about a month ago. I went over yesterday and helped her figure it out. We cooked a 2-lb pork loin roast with garlic, herbs and veggies and it was awesome. Really infused the pork with the garlic and herb flavors.

You can sear in it first, and after the food is done the cooking liquid can be boiled and reduced/thickened for gravy. It also doubles (triples?) as a rice cooker and a slow cooker and a steamer.

The 6-quart version has 141 mostly glowing reviews on Amazon. Under $100. I think I'm going to get one post-haste.

Sounds very nice. If we didn't have two well functioning slow cookers (one to carry and one to stay) and a serviceable Presto electric pressure cooker (yes, it is vintage); we could go for that one.

It will be interesting to hear from you after you've had your pony for awhile and have determined if it does all the tricks it's supposed to do equally well. And I don't mean to be a naysayer, I hope it will. But a friend of mine bought an all-in-one machine that may or may not have been this brand--I don't remember knowing which one she bought--and asked for my help cooking rice. She thought she'd be able to throw her rice machine away (she's Asian, lots of rice) but found her all-in-one rice was too sticky, or at least a lot more so than she was used to with a rice machine. Backing off on the liquid didn't seem to help, either. Good luck, though--I love the idea of having one appliance to replace three.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Don't have a pressure cooker and I'm sure a "jack of all trades" appliance can't really do everything well. You're probably right about the rice. Likely it wouldn't be a match for a dedicated cooker. Don't do a lot of rice though, mostly risotto when we do.

I've never really cooked with a pressure cooker. I was really impressed with the flavor and ease of cooking the meal, not to mention the time savings. My only familiarity with a pressure cooker was my mother's 40+ years ago with that big, heavy pressure gauge rocking around while steam sputtered out. This modern electric jobby was an eye opener for me.

From reviews, I think it's also supposed to be a better slow cooker than the usual because of the electronic temperature controls. Our crockpots are all off, low or high.

Anyway, I thought it was cool but I haven't pulled the trigger just yet. In my research I've found the same machine with a few different brand names.
