Apparently, some local officials in Nevada have too much time on their hands. This is a link to a story about a farm-to-table dinner being held at a small farm in Nevada that was raided and nearly shut down by health department officials. Worth the rather long read and worth passing along if you like the idea of small family farms doing dinners like this.

Many of us have been following it closely and it is of big concern in the north state. Just down the hill from our house is the richest soil in Shasta Co, that grows lots of food, from apples to zucchini. The Co. wants to put a mega mall up and destroy many family farms. Being of solid western stock here in these parts, the people have put a stop to it for many years, just recently obtaining almost 12,000 signatures to stop the mall. We have empty buildings all over the place and more every month. This bill is much larger than this however, and very scary.

This venue is becoming very popular around here, particularly in Southern New England. Maybe David can add some thoughts.

They're not uncommon around here, either. I know my old CSA farmer has a get-together every year for subscribers.

If there really are regulations on the books that would make such dinners illegal then they need to draft new regs.
