Waffle maker recommendations?

by Jon Peterson » Thu Nov 03, 2011 8:45 am

We had a taste for waffles Sunday morning. Pulled out the old waffle maker and plugged it in – nothing happened. I was going to take it apart and then said "forgetaboutit". I never really liked it because there was no way to keep it clean and it was a one trick pony - waffles were all you could use it for. (I've seen some that you can use to make Panini as well as waffle just by flipping the griddle over, for example.) Anyway - and recommendations for a brand to purchase?

I have an old, cheap waffle maker that does only waffles, but mine is still working <g>. I checked Consumers Union and they have toasters but no waffle makers reviewed. I guess you could Google.

If you are going to invest in a new appliance I highly recommend the Cuisinart Griddler. You can get waffle plates for it when you order it. Then you will have a grill, a griddle, a panni maker, and a waffle iron. The plates pop right out and go into the diswaser along with the drip pan if necessary. The rest of the piece cleans up with a paper towel. I think other folks around here use one too.

I own a waffle-maker. It was a gift to me from a friend. Said waffle-maker lives at Jay Miller's house because he makes wonderful waffles and they are the only ones I eat. So that he may make twice as many -- he owns a waffle-maker, too -- I leave mine strategically and tactically positioned as close to the source of batter as I can manage.

I think mine makes heart-shaped waffles that are easy to split in half. One presumes this is to encourage sharing rather than a morbid way to vent jealous feelings or relive old jiltings. I once saw a similar one that made Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles.

Pardon me, what was the question?

We have a Vitantonio Premier that's worked very well for us over the past decade or so. I did a quick check around the web, though, and I couldn't find any for sale. Don't know if they're not made any more or what. Guess that's not much help at all!

We have a Waring (sp ?)... the kind that sits up high with a long handle. After you fill the iron you flip the handle and turn the iron upside down. It makes pretty good waffles which is all we want it to do... Nice high ridges.
