Heard today from KCTS, Seattle's public television station, that one of my original recipes has been selected for their next cook book! I'm so excited!

(And no I don't even get a free book out of it.)

Congrats - that's wonderful.

But you should get a comp copy.

Good for you, girl! But, since you don't get a comp copy of the book, you should post the recipe here before the book is printed. That'll show 'em!

I don't even know which recipe they picked! I sent two, and the congrats letter was boiler plate-unspecific. I'd actually planned to send two or three more that would fit the theme, I remember thinking, but I never got around to it nor do I even remember what the theme was. I just saw the notice in their monthly newsletter, had two recipes I'd just written up the day before that fit the theme, so submitting them was took no real time or effort.

Yeah, you'd think the submitters would get a comped book. But what I get is a chance to receive one for half the price they'll sell them on TV, and at least it's a tax deductible donation. And as someone who donates anyway, this isn't a problem and I sent them more than they asked for. I'll be in there with Tom Douglas, among the famous names, which won't be quite as cool as the time I was listed in the credits of another book between Oscar Wilde and Julia Child, but it's a fun and tiny bit of immortality nonetheless.

Congratulation Jenise...it is fun to get published. Sounds like you are getting some publicity out of it, anyway.
I was published in a book for Sonoma Marinated, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, and received a lovely book in return. However, if the books are done as a fund-raiser, that may not be an option. I did a fund raiser for our local police department(when I worked for them) and all the recipes were from police staff, police volunteers, and their kids. The title was Cop 'n Cooks" It was a fund raiser, involved our volunteers and the money made ($10,000) was dedicated to purchasing items City Council would not approve for them. Updated gas masks, a video camera for the main lobby, chairs for the briefing room were not important items to council. I had staff ask about getting a free book. Since we only charged eight dollars for the books and staff was well paid, I had to decline. We did have a party for staff and council a few months later and we all cooked recipes from the book. Sold a ton more! I liked your comment on the tiny bit of immortality. Never thought of it that way.
I agree with Jo Ann, post it here!

Well-deserved recognition, Jenise. A shame that you don't get a copy of the book, though.

Hey Jenise, I visited KCTS website...it is very nice and has some great sounding recipes. Will you be cooking your recipe on their show? I see that they have videos of past winners. Great concept for public television. Ours in Redding could certainly use some help.

No, Karen, I won't be doing an on-camera segment. You know how some people are telegenic? Well, I'm not. I've been on TV a couple times and just hated seeing myself--never again!

As a fellow subscriber to KCTS, I thank you for your contribution. I'll look forward to buying a copy, though we both know I don't need any more cookbooks. Will you autograph the recipe for me?

Hee hee, you may not want it after all, Susan! I just got a letter from them listing the 15 people/recipes selected for the on-camera demos during the Seattle Cooks! (I think that's the name anyway) program based on the book release, and one of them was--I kid you not--Tater Tot Casserole. Four top area chefs are also on the list cooking much better things, but jeez. Tater Tot Casserole????

I've never seen a Tater Tot make a casserole. Wonder what goes into it? (Surely, not the tater tots, after all....)

Let us know what recipe they honoured. I'm betting on the one with peanut buitter and bananas!

(PS - "tater tots"????? August company indeed.... I think.)

You've never made a tater tot casserole? You don't know what you are missing. They make a great after Thanksgiving dish. Kids and men seem to love it!

Never cooked a tater tot!

Tend to prefer doing things myself to premade, although probably like most, I absorbed quite a few Swanson TV dinners when growing up, before I was cooking for myself.
