Ideas for Rocky Horror pre-show appetizers?

by Jenise » Sat Oct 22, 2011 7:04 pm

I'm hosting.

Givens: something with Curry (as in Tim). Something meatloaf (as in Meatloaf).

Obviously, more help needed. Any clever ideas?

Since they have meat loaf (Eddie) for dinner -- the usual Halloween things. Of course you need to make people reach into something to experience the "eyeballs" (peeled grapes) and other gooey organs.

There is a novelty company that has jello molds in the shape of a brain, things like that.

I think it would be great to have a flip chart with the steps to The Time Warp -- and white rimmed sunglasses for the tuxedoed guests

A Martha Stewart recipe for "broken glass cupcakes" -- http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44949723/ ... qTiI2CEbz8

It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

I remember doing the Time Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again...
Let's do the time warp again!

It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do the Time Warp again!

Frank-n-Furters. YES. And foods on toast. Rice should be worked in somewhere too, perhaps, since that's a classic prop?

Jim--I'm NOT dressing up. Could change my mind by Friday, but I am thinking about getting a pair of cheap white-framed sun glasses for each of my guests. :)

Which gives us what, 4 days to organize serious forum peer pressure to change your mind.

I, for one, am horrified that our fearless leader in all things foodie would host a Rocky Horror event and fail to dress in the spirit of the show...

And I will be crushed if you agree and post photos of you as Riff Raff or Eddy.

Jenise even if you "don't dress" you could become "early Janet" just by finding a pink dress and a frumpy cardigan.

Of course then there might be pressure to show your "late Janet" side which involves underwear...

Back when they started doing midnight Rocky Horror shows in movie theaters, you could get in for half price by dressing as one of the characters. I put on a suit and tie and said I was Dr. Scott. Unexciting but it worked.

The neighbor's kids -- this was mid 1970's I think -- were thespians and went the whole route with garter belts and makeup and wigs.

I've offered a prize to any male who comes to my house wearing a garter belt. I am fairly certain one couple already own such things. But we'll see!

Definitely you need toast and rice. Not necessarily as part of the meal, but to take to the picture show.

Not exactly Rocky Horror Show-relevant, but a litterbox cake might be appropriate, along with brain-jello or peeled-grape-eyeballs?

The theater won't let us take rice, but water pistols and toast are somehow okay. Re the others: the litterbox cake made me laugh. I'd love to do something like that but this party is only an appetizer thing at my house prior to us going to the show (which somehow involves live actors AND the film, though I'm not sure how). The party won't last long enough for me to get too complicated.

We watched the movie last night with some of the friends we're going with on Friday and now I get what you guys mean by this. I'd completely forgotten the character, along with many others.

Definitely gave me more ideas, especially the thought that we really have to dress up for this show. Bob is thin and bald but I'm going to make him into an Eddie anyway. Not sure about me, though!

For the Janet Weiss character played by Susan Sarandon, you could serve Weiss`wurst (german white sausages, or boudin blanc), dipped in mustard. Tacky, I know, but definitely edible.
Sounds like fun.

Ines, what a great idea. I hadn't realized that weiss = white.

Hey, was thinking about you last night. Opened another of those '00 Rossignol Trapets we got for $10 each way back when. Hadn't opened one in years but oh was it good.

Wouldn't Riff Raff be easier?

You'd be right that his current hair style is closer to Riff Raff than Eddie. A LOT closer. :)

You know what else is pretty amazing? The 2001 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean (rouge) that we picked up for $15 around the same time. Saw some on Winebid last week priced at $120. I only have 1 left....
