New lettuce from Garden Life, " cosmopolitan"

by Karen/NoCA » Thu Sep 29, 2011 5:33 pm

Have you seen it in a clam shell at your local supermarket? I love the "live" butter lettuce that comes with roots, sunk into a water hole that comes in a clam shell. It is delicious and so fresh tasting.
Along side that today, was a new lettuce called cosmopolitan, a naturally bred proprietary seed variety, is the combination of Romaine and Iceberg lettuces. It is beautiful, sweet, and crunchy. It would make great wraps...if you happed to like lettuce wraps.

The clam shell with a full head of Boston lettuce has been around in New England for a long time. More recently introduced is a similar clam shell package with four different mini-lettuce heads in it. I like them both--they seem to stay fresh longer than conventionally packaged lettuce.
