Lemon Verbena

by Christina Georgina » Wed Aug 10, 2011 4:39 pm

Growing it this year sucessfully for the first time. Love it for iced tea. Boil a bunch of stems and leaves and let it sit. A chunk of ginger doesn't hurt !
How do you use it ?
Mamma Mia !

I love throwing my lemon verbena inside roasted chicken, or laying a spatchcocked chicken on top of whole stems with leaves. I use the younger leaves on steamed potatoes or potato salads, on veggies, even rice dishes. Use it anywhere you would lemon zest, make sorbet, finely chop and use in fruit salads.

Love lemon verbena. If you ever have the urge to make your own limoncello, along with the lemons throw in some lemon verbena, perhaps slightly bruised. Makes for a wonderful addition, giving up some intense aromas and flavors in the finished concoction.

Also makes for a nice aromatic addition to a table centerpiece.

Hey Hoke, you use fresh herbs for table centerpieces too? I love doing that. I mix in lots of herbs for a really fresh look and resulting odor. Sometimes I use all herbs in tiny two 1/2 inch clear containers at each setting. Fun stuff!

Try this, Karen. In a little cup or glass (preferably clear for effect) make a little pudding with chocolate and whatever flavors you like, then cover the top with heavy crumbled up oreo cookies (you can lick the frosting off before if you need to). Then stick a sprig or two of spearmint right in the top and serve up.

Bit of an attention getter and convervsation starter for a dessert. You could, of course, do the same thing as a starter with, maybe a terrine or black olive tapenade or some such and a sprig of basil and other herbs.

Umm....is it OK if I scrape the frosting off rather than lick? I'd hate to ruin my reputation as a home cook!
