A new vegetable???

by David M. Bueker » Tue Aug 02, 2011 2:56 pm

So I am in Poland on business for a couple of weeks. For the most part I have enjoyed the dinners here in Wroclaw, but tonight just made me laugh. Our waiter said he spoke very good English, which was great as my co-worker and I speak no Polish. I decide to order a particular dish, but I am not sure of all the contents. So I asked him "are there any vegetables in the dish?" His response was "there's cheese!"

My co-worker and I nearly fell out of our chairs.

It turns out the waiter was not entirely correct - there was also potato in the dish!

Well if the cheese was good it's better than calling Heinz ketchup a vegetable (like my relatives in certain parts of VA and NC where fresh vegetables are scarce).

To be complete, it was a cheese and cream sauce.

Fresh vegetables scarce in VA or NC? If you said Alaska or North Dakota I might have understood, but ???.

Not in the states, but in these specific towns where Walmart is the only place to go shopping and the only restaurants are TGI Fridays and the like. When I visited they took us to one of these restaurants because of the all-you-can-eat salad bar (they know I like vegetables). Which was a nice touch. Except for the fact that everything on the 'salad' bar was from a can or a jar.
