He saw John Wayne's balls!

With that title, I know that at least Mike Filigenzi and Daniel Rogov will read this post. Not sure about the rest of you. :)

Anyway, great referral to a fun essay on a foodie blog from my friend Chris:

Read it for sure and smiled. As to John Wayne, I remember his visit to Harvard Square on a tank on which he was smoking a joint. As to meatball sandwiches, the very best ever in the known universe were set as an Italian hero sandwich served at a place happily referred to as "Ptomaine Joe's", on 15th Street in Manhattan, directly across from Stuyvesant High School at the time. Huge sandwich, packed with herbed meatballs, a phenomenal brown sauce, dripping as you ate it from every end (you learned to lean over while standing up and eating).

I'm afraid this is not an unusual site. I have seen elderly men in assisted living facilities, post-op men in hospital gowns, totally unaware of what they are revealing. I had to grab my pet therapy dog once when he spotted it too and decided he needed a closer investigation. I was totally embarrassed and so was the patient. Yes, I was forewarned about the situation during training but I guess my dog was not in on that conversation. From then on I made sure to keep him closer to me in those circumstances.

You obviously know us too well, Jenise!

Funny article, although the idea of taking a bath with Michael Landon wearing nothing but cowboy hats is kinda disturbing.

As for the meatball sandwich, I will differ with Rogov and claim those made by Luigi's delicatessen in Phoenix were the best in the cosmos. My daughters will disagree with both of us, with their top meatball sandwich award going to The Italian Import Company, here in Sacto. Like so many other foods, for us it all comes down to what you grew up with.
