"Good Eats" comes to an end

Read it and weep. Now there's no reason to watch Food TV at all any more.

Wow - that's too bad. Can't blame AB for wanting to wrap it up after writing and producing 249 shows, but I will miss that show.

He says that "good" things are on the way, but that's hard to believe given what he's been involved with other than Good Eats. Ditching the Food Network would be a good first step, though.

I enjoyed Alton Brown to a point. Then I got tired of all the silliness. I could understand his efforts to help his audience understand more about food science and that was OK, up to a point. I stopped watching him a long time ago. Can't really say there is anyone that I make a point of watching. I enjoyed Michaell Chiarello now and then, but there was something about his demenor that got to me. Ina Garten of Barefoot Contessa is the one I have stuck with the longest, but not on a regular basis.

I'm kind with you on this, Karen. Liked him, enjoyed the information, hated the silliness, never made a point of watching but overall liked the few episodes I saw. I wonder if he just ran out of topics or if Network brass needed to make room for another Guy Fieri show. :)

The silliness was often too much for me, so never regularly watched, but I seldom watched an episode without learning something (maybe not a technique, but why it works).

It's hard to believe with current programming, but there was probably a point in the late 90s when in one day one could watch Sara Moulton, David Rosengarten, Ming Tsai, Alton Brown, and Mario Batali, and find something useful in each one. Even the pre-live shows of Emeril could be useful, as could Bobby Flay before he became ....whatever.
