"55 °F" should read "55 °C."

There was some discussion here when the $625 Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking came out and some forumites said they would be buying the book....

On page 1·21, in the cap­tion, “Normal Rockwell” should read “Norman Rockwell.”

On page 1·25, “causal” should read “casual” and “desert” should read “dessert.”

On page 1·31, in the top cap­tion, “cites” should read “cities.”

On page 1·174, in the note in the mar­gin, “192.2 °C” should read “192.2 °F.”

On page 1·273, in the first paragraph, "55 °F" should read "55 °C."

Ah Peter, you and I are behind the times. With whatever it is we are calling "modernist cuisine", what real difference could there be between Fahrenheit and Celsius. Aside from which I have always rather enjoyed seeing him referred to as 'Normal Mailer".

Your complaint (with which I agree) is against the sad state of publishing, not the modernist thoughts and ideas and creations. You're confusing ideation with execution.

As the lisping rabbit might put it: disagwee. After perusing many of these books I have begun to wonder if many of the errors come from various editors' inability to understand much of what the "modernists" are trying to say. Language editors most certainly suffer from what we might think of as an overload of incomprehension. And, when that happens, errors creep in, from psychic overloading.

Daniel, at $625.00 mine would be finding it's way back to the publisher after I had my money well in hand! I find typos in my own writing here on WLDG, and often at that. But I 'ain't" no professional!
