Ree Drummond aka Pioneer Woman on Food Network

by Karen/NoCA » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:38 pm

NEW SERIES DAYTIME:
PIONEER WOMAN
Series Premiere: August 2011
Award-winning blogger and bestselling author Ree Drummond shares her special brand of home cooking, from throw-together suppers to elegant celebrations. This sassy former city girl, her hunky rancher husband and their band of adorable kids invite viewers into their life at home on the range – the next best thing to actually sitting on a stool in Ree’s kitchen.

I enjoy this lady, and will be watching for her show. I love the city girl meets real cowboy love story, the fact that she home schools her kids, is a pretty good photographer, has a bit of a "wild child" spirit and her wacky blogs. How about you, will you be watching?

She's quite the celebrity here already.

Ah yes, she is from your part of the country. Is their ranch near you? I always wondered how their guest lodge does....it certainly has a fabulous kitchen. I wonder why someone would want to go to such a remote place, unless it is for hunting and fishing. She often mentions how remote they are on her blogs.

Yes, I have made her crash potatoes many times....most of her recipes are good comfort food.

I don't know anything about her, actually, but at least it sounds original and somewhat serious in terms of food. Especially as compared to yet another Rachel Ray program or a show called Bitchin Kitchen which I've seen (and groaned over) commercials for. No, thank you!

Going to remote places is my idea of a relaxing vacation. Screw the cities, give me off-the-beaten-path! :D

I did not communicate well. I am not familiar with the area, but from what Ree describes on her blogs is this: flat, dry, dusty, tornedos, wind, has to travel for a longer amount of time than I would like to get somewhere to do some good food shopping, etc. I know when she does her yearly contest and has 4 to 5 winners as guests at her Lodge, the travel time to pick them up at the ariport and bring them back out to the ranch is a chore for her. She usually sends someone to pick them up. I don't like that type of country...prefer green, moss, waterfalls, mountains, lakes, etc. So that is what I meant about going to such a remote place. I like remote if I can drive about an hour and be in civilization.

Really? :? My favorite part of Oklahoma is so far out in the boonies that a 4-hour drive (in any direction) might get you 2 hours from civilization.
Kenton, Oklahoma - near Black Mesa, way farther out than Pioneer Woman lives. If I could talk Gail into it, and could have broadband, I'd just about be ready to move there.

I downloaded most of her recipes to take a closer look at them. To me it is always interesting to take a look at recipes that take a slightly different slant on standard recipes. Other wise one kinda gets in a rut on putting out standard fare on a table.

I have already deleted a bunch of them but there was one that I will try again. That was a simple sauce of equal parts apricot preserves, mayo and Dijon mustard. I used it with some salmon I had. I think it would be even better with chicken sandwiches as she recommends.

I really like to have a large number of simple sauces to use for different items... ones that can be made in a flash. I really should give this more focus and get into some more of the gourmet level sauces.
