Anyone know people like this?

Rather obnoxious, don't you think? We were out to dinner with friends a few weeks ago, and I had a salad with fresh basil. I have not seen fresh basil in any salads in Redding and when the waitress came by, I asked her if the basil was sourced locally. Mainlly, because if it was, I wanted to know who was growing basil locally during the winter. Before she had a chance to answer, the male half the couple with us said, "I've never heard anyone ever ask if something was sourced locally when going to a restaurant!" The waitress was very nice and explained that they try to source most food in the restaurant locally, even the meat because they like to support local farmers and agriculture. Besides the food tastes better, she said.
I just sat back and smiled, not even glancing his way. Had I answered back, I would have asked, "why would you not ask, do you not prefer that local restaurants, owned by local folks support our local growers?" I felt the waitress did the job for me.
The video almost made me gag on my lunch....way over the top.

Well, it is from Portlandia, which is a sendup of the pretensions of that great Metropolis to your north, Karen!

Sounds like you handled that very elegantly. I might have been tempted to reply with any number of inelegant quips about things I had never heard of.

FWIW, I don't think of myself as a particularly precious diner and your question seems pretty standard/general to me.

Thanks Rahsaan...sometimes saying nothing is best, especially since the waitress knew her stuff. :)
