Any experience with Restaurant Depot?

by Tom Troiano » Sun Feb 27, 2011 9:41 pm

I recently picked up a membership for the Restaurant Depot. Been once and didn't have a lot of time so I'm sure I missed a lot.

Any comments from folks who have been there? The meat selection is daunting. Is the seafood good?

We don't have them around here, but it looks pretty interesting. It is basically a restaurant supply store with food?

Mike, it has everything you could possibly need in a restaurant - from paper forms, to furniture, to point of sale equipment, clothing, pots and pans, refrigerators, ice machines, paper goods, all food items, beverages, etc. Other than alcohol I can't think of anything that they don't have.

I see that there is a Restaurant Depot in Louisville, but not in Lexington. I was thinking of maybe driving over there just to see what it is all about price and availability wise. Would give me something to do. Robin, if you are interested they are located at 620 Locust Lane Louisville, KY 40217

Bob,

I should note that you need a membership to get in and to get a membership you must own a food-related business or be a 501(C)(3) (and, of course, have all the appropriate documentation).

Thanks for pointing that out Tom. I called the Louisville store and the lady I spoke with said I could get in to see if I would be interested in getting a card. I work at a golf course and we do have food service so guess that is enough. I would need a letter from my boss with a tax number. Won't even bring that up since the store is 75+ miles away, unless of course their prices are really good.

It's a recent arrival in Louisville, and some of our chefs like it, although there's been some resistance since The Dine Co. on Preston is locally owned and operated and has lots of fans, so a lot of people in the business are sticking with the local guy. For "civilians," the Dine Co. is open to everyone and doesn't require membership.

Interesting. There's apparently one in Blauvelt, across the Tappan Zee, and their price for Cambro Camtainers looks to be best I've ever seen (my 501-c-3 replaces several each year). Thanks
