Maytag is back

by Karen/NoCA » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:49 pm

Cheese, that is. I have not been able to find Maytag Blue Cheese anywhere I shop. Raley's and Safeway used to carry it, now they act dumb when I ask where the Maytag is. So because of a post I read on here, I visited IGourmet.com and ordered some fabulous Parmesan and my beloved Maytag. It was very fresh, very yummy and I am so happy to have it back in the house. I tried several different kinds during the past few months and none of them compared to Maytag.

Whole Foods in Bedford and Cambridge Massachusetts has always had Maytag Blue every time I've shopped there. I concur that it's a great blue cheese. The local (Massachusetts) Great Hills Blue is a close competitor.

One of the highlights of the changes in retail near where I work in DC is the addition of the Cow Girl cheese shop. What a joy to go in there and taste, decide and then buy. They don't always have Maytag Blue but they always have something close. I'll miss that shop if I ever retire.

Every time we travel to the Point Reyes coast in No CA, I make sure I get to the Cow Girl Creamery. There is so much there to taste, and buy. Besides they have a fabulous shop in the same building with hand made sweaters, hats, scarves, etc. :D

Karen, I concur with Paul's concurrence. :) An excellent cheese that for me has some of the tang and creaminess of a good Danish but it's tempered by the sophistication of, say, a young gorgonzola.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
